Thank you for your input and the relevant questions you put forward.

The Terms of Use and other legal details around fair usage and liability are being charted out presently. The service is in a closed testing stage at the moment. We were live only for a few hours during the presentation at the Launch48 event.

We intend to offer a free-mium service where the escrow deposit service would be a paid-for service. The team is working hard on the nitty-gritties to ensure we are the simplest and the most cost-effective solution to a problem many of us, including you, can so easily identify with.

Protected.CC would like to keep in touch with you - feel free to pitch in with more input/questions as they occur to you. Thank you for your time and watch this space for further developments!

Thank you for your input, both at the event itself and on the blog. We do not intend to mislead the users into thinking that we are issuing copyright - our users will be well educated on the automatic assignment of copyright to the creator the moment something is created.

Protected.CC is intended to be both a deterrent to potential copright infringement and a tool that can be used to assert the exact time at which something is created and transmitted via email. The 'when' bit of it can be independently verified by using our technology.

Looking forward to discussing this further with you, at your convenience!

I think this service has a lot of potential. See my comments at http://mogsipblog.blogspot.com/

I think the plain english video is very powerful.

Are there going to be fair usage limits? Some organisations/individuals are prolific copyright creators.

Is there a way to add to existing material in a similar way to an escrow deposit. Copyright works often go through many interations and the modification of an old work will often create new copyright.

Limiting liability through terms of use will be key to managing risk.

Hi

Just to reiterate the comments I made over the weekend, there is no requirement in law to mail stuff to yourself in order to assert copyright. If there was, this solution would not work.

If you create something which is covered by the concept of copyright, you own the copyright as soon as you create it (unless you have assigned it or it belongs to your employer by virtue of your employed status).

Kind regards
